Christmas Home Tour
Hi friends! Christmas has arrived at the Cottage! And oh, it gets so festive and enchanting this time of year. I thought I would give ya'll a quick tour to get you in the holiday spirit.
Some info on my Cottage:
My home is a Texas bungalow that dates to the 1910's or 1920's, so it is easily 95-100 years old. It has two bedrooms, 1 bath and enough quirks and original features to make your heart grow *at least* three sizes! The kitchen, flooring, doors and windows are all original. The moment I walked in this place, I knew it was home. The design challenge with the Cottage is definitely its original features and awkward layout: my living room alone has 3 doorways, 1 window and an old school built-in phone shelf (which I adore btw)! But it's fun, and I love to play with it.
My style is Victorian Eclectic. I love texture, rounded lines and Victorian antiques but infused with modern pops of color and unexpected style combinations. I have at least 3 Christmas trees every year (one year I had 6!), all with some variation of a theme. You will see two: my living room and kitchen trees. I'm also spoiled to have some incredible original art by local Texas artists! You'll see two textile animals by Meredith Hadaway, and a favorite crow painting by Linda Hamilton.
Thanks for stopping by! I'm interested to hear your thoughts, so please feel free to comment below! I have big plans to revamp the place in 2017, and I will post decor updates as time allows.
The living room (and Toby's stuffed dog! LOL)
This wood wall is actually incredible fabric from IKEA! I bought 9 yards, cut it into three pieces and tacked it up with thumbtacks. It's Toodle-Approved!
The small fabric fox is by my pal, textile artist Meredith Hadaway @rtexasgallery
The kitchen tree: this is usually some variation of red and green. My pieced project Water Reflections makes a great backdrop along with a floral commission.
I found this amazing hand-painted cabinet at The Round Top Antique Show. It houses my bed linens... and another incredible textile piece by Meredith Hadaway.
Bear Cub with Top Hat by Meredith Hadaway @rtexasgallery (and my great-grandmother's lamp)
This crow is an amazing piece by a local Texas artist, Linda Hamilton @texastrashandtreasures . I love her work so much, I have two pieces! These are hand painted on bits of salvaged tin.
I found this amazzzingggg yellow console at IKEA in 2010, and I'm still in love. The landscape painting on the right side (above the tree) is one of my college sketches.
My ornaments are a mix of Victorian style pieces combined with bright felt creatures and glass orbs (Target). The feather garland is made from peacock feathers.
The guest room "day bed" (two twins placed foot to foot).
There may be a cute little face in the window...
I have no electrical outlets outside, so I've lined the windows with lights. Toby loves to bask in it its glory.
Thanks for stopping by friends!! I hope ya'll have a wonderful holiday season, and a Happy 2017!
